Crtique 2:
The title of this painting is Ted Williams which was painted by Dave Olsen. The subject of the painting is one of the greatest baseball player Ted Williams. The medium is painting and its acrylics on Bristol board. The painting is Ted Williams standing there at batting practice holding two bats on his shoulders most likely at Yankees stadium.
Color is included in this painting because there at multiple colors in one area. There is a lot of emphasis on Ted Williams over the background. The field in this painting would be the stadium behind Ted. The focal point of this painting is Ted Williams because there is all the emphasis on him. Highlight is shown in the picture from the background because you can see in the background the grass is lite up from the lights from the stadium. The narrative of the story would be that Ted Williams is getting ready or just finished doing batting practice. The realism of this painting is that Ted Williams does batting practice before every game so he would do this. The subject matter of this painting would be Ted getting ready to get into batting practice or get ready for the game. The texture in this painting is from Ted’s jersey. The tone from the painting is from the use of a lot of colors in it. The value is the difference between how the light is on the bottom of the painting and the dark is the top of the painting.
The story I see within this piece is that Ted is getting ready for the game. He just finished doing batting practice is feeling ready to play the rival Yankees in what’s always a close down the wire, exhausting game. The focal point of this painting would be on Ted Williams because you see him clearly, but the rest of the picture is all blurry. What makes this painting strong is that it focuses just on Ted, and the whole background is blurry. So it puts more emphasis on him. What also makes it good is that there is the light coloring on the bottom of the painting and the dark coloring on the top of the painting.
